Comforting Christmas Gifts for your Chronically Ill Loved one

Looking for the perfect gift for your chronically ill or disabled loved one? The gift of comfort is always the answer! Here are some suggestions that I’ve put together that I think you’ll love giving that I know they’ll love getting!

NUMBER ONE: A READING PILLOW FOR THEIR BED

Chronic pain and illness can mean your bed can start to feel like a prison after days on end of resting. Turn their prison into a sanctuary with this cozy reading pillow that will allow them to enjoy cozy activities like reading, crocheting, emboidery, or binge-watching their favorite shows.

NUMBER TWO: A DESK THEY CAN USE IN BED

Following the same line of thought as the above reading pillow, this desk allows you to stay in your safe, warm place while your body rests. Sometimes, though, when our bodies need to rest, our minds are still going a million miles per hour, right? That’s where this desk can be a sanity-saving tool. Whether they’re working on a laptop or coloring a pretty page, they will thank you for allowing them to stay comfy while letting their mind stay busy.

NUMBER THREE: A COZY LOUNGE SET

Wanna know a secret struggle we have as chronically ill people? How to dress for doctor’s appointments. Sounds silly, right? BUT. If you’ve ever had a doctor be dismissive of your illness because “you look fine!”, you wish you would have shown up to the appointment looking shabby in your favorite worn out jammies so they could see how bad you feel. On the other had, if you’ve ever had a doctor tell you that your symptoms are just despression and laziness (UGH), you wish you would have had the energy to look a little more “put together” for your appointment.

Enter the lounge suit! I’ve found they’re the perfect way for me to feel like I am still in my comfy pajamas when I leave the house, yet they still let me look like I was able to make some effort in my appearance. Highly recommend!!

NUMBER FOUR: A U-SHAPED FULL BODY PILLOW

This one is a big wishlist item for me, personally! Most days, I hurt in at least 3 places at once. At least. That means getting comfortable enough to get some quality sleep can be a real challenge. While this beast of a pillow is marketing primarily toward pregnant women, I have had multiple chronically ill/disabled friends swear by this thing. Giving the gift of a good night’s sleep is like giving someone a bar of gold!

NUMBER FIVE: A PLUSH, COZY ROBE

This one is pretty self-explanatory, I suppose. Our coziest pieces become our uniform around the house, right? The softer the better—especially for those of us with allodynia and neuropathy!

NUMBER SIX: Wooden Shower Chair

While this isn’t as cozy as a reading pillow or a robe, having a wooden shower chair is a comfort itself. Mustering up the energy to shower can be overwhelming some days. Knowing you have a seat waiting for you sure does help….especially when it’s not one of those white plastic ones that make you feel like a premature nursing home resident! This chair is beautiful!

NUMBER SEVEN: XL Heating Pad

Every chronically ill person I know has an emotional attachment to their heating pads! Some even nickname them! Not even kidding! Ha! Gift your chronically ill friend a new one, because A) hers may be worn out and gnarly looking and B) you can never have too many of them when your body is your own worst enemy.

NUMBER EIGHT: Faux Fur Heated Blanket

It’s as simple as this: I use my headed blanket as a full-body heating pad because some days, literally every part of my body hurts. Except maybe my ear lobes. I engulf my self in my heated blanket and dissociate – I mean….rest – for hours. It does the body good! Plus, my kitties lay all over me and my blanket and purr themselves into oblivion. Heavenly!
